Ales Jiranek

This week I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Ales Jiranek’s atelier.
We’ve been collaborating to do work for the city of Geneva and its surroundings.

Ales was born in Prague and his work has been recognized by the UNESCO.
He’s a brilliant artist who once was an unhappy architect. He quit his job to be a painter.
He has depicted many European towns the way no other artist has ever done. His style is very particular.
His most impressive paintings are very long panoramas. He’s built a portable “Torah like” mechanism he uses
to create his unique pieces. He scrolls the canvas to paint 360° panoramas on location.
He then finishes them up at his atelier. The accuracy and the detail of this paintings are impressive.
His personal interpretation of each façade is quite fascinating too. Some of his slightly distorted
views remind me a bit of Dr. Seuss’ illustrations.

I was truly fascinated by his ingenuity, his talent and modesty. I left his atelier filled with inspiration!

Signature party designs

I was invited to create customizable signature designs for this über-cool Brazilian site that’s about to launch. It’s everything for children’s parties. Since this is one of my favorite hobbies I had a total blast creating these pieces!

Vivienne Westwood: Bruised mannequins

As a fan of fashion and British punk I’ve always loved Vivienne Westwood.
I was very pleased to see her initiative to raise awareness against domestic violence in Italy.
Right at Milan’s fashion disctric she turned her mannequins into victims of domestic abuse
to bring attention to this touchy subject.

The ambient idea, via Leo Burnett Milan, created a big buzz among shoppers and media outlets.

A different approach to support equality

Some of the most recognized brands and celebrities have joined millions of people around the world to help end discrimination against lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders by sharing a modified version of the Human Rights Campaign’s logo in support of marriage equality.

Brands like Martha Stewart Living, Smirnoff, LEGO, Orbitz, Bud Light have launched logo versions of their own to support the cause.

The social pope

Right after the new pope was chosen a massive amount of
jokes invaded the social networks specially in South America.
The pope was quickly compared to Maradona,
and Messi. Some even said that he had been helped by a
“new hand of God”. But what shocked me the most
was the mobile/tablet presence at the Vatican during
the announcement. See the picture comparing 2005
to 2013.The digital world is changing fast. Even the pope
has a twitter account. Hope he brings radical reform
and tango to the Catholic Church! Long live the pope!

One of the real Mad Men

Before Mad Men was launched by AMC I was part of the pitch to promote its debut.
We (the Brooklyn Brother s at the time) unfortunatelly lost it to another agency.
We came up with a vintage look that was combined to a sarcastic message for this great series about the ad world in the 60′s.
The new Mad Men campaign to be launched was illustrated by Brian Sanders, one of the real mad men of that time.

Coca-Cola Polar bears

Coca-Cola gives iconic polar bears a starring role with Ridley Scott film. “The Polar Bears,”
as the short is called tells the story of the bear family that has appeared in Coke commercials
since the company’s “Always Coca-Cola” campaign kicked off in 1993. The short film will also
be cut into 30 second spots to be aired during prime time British tv. Branded entertainement at its best!

Without hands

I saw this spot last night and had a good laugh.
This is a very simple idea that a lot of people can relate with.
Not sure the French will get it though
I used to be exactly like that before having kids.
Nowadays it’s totally useless to try to run away from germs…
But it’s a nice ad nonetheless.

Mascot of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil

The official Mascot of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil has a name, Fuleco.
A mix of “Futebol” and “Ecologia”.
1.7 million people in Brazil took part in the vote to select the name for the armadillo. This animal is very unique and only exists in Brazil: the three-banded armadillo has the ability to roll into a ball. A great fit for the next world cup!

LG Halloween prank

Who doesn’t love watching people get pranked? LG screens were placed on elevator floors. A camera recorded elevator riders’ reactions while a realistic animation of the floors falling out was playing. Nice Halloween idea!

The Brooklyn Brothers are starting a joint venture between well-established writters
and directors under the agency’s name to create branded entertainement content
to help brands reach out to their audiences.
This idea was inspired by last years’ New Era campaign that engaged many
baseball fans through witty webisodes based on teams rivalry.
Wishing the brotherhood best of luck because talent is not what they lack!

ChapStick’s butt ad upsets females

Too bad ChapStick’s new ad campaign lacked execution and taste. I really think it could have generated a big social media buzz.
Instead it has upset lots of females who posted negative comments onto their facebook page.
Just this morning I was happy to find an old chapstick inside my coat’s pocket. It had been there since last year. It was like finding cash.
My son found another one under the bed one of these days. The agency behind this butt ad could have used much funnier
and absurd situations to bring this idea to life and create a kick ASS campaign instead.

10 people you’ll only see in NYC
